Closed Restore the Financial Bursary to support Learning Disability Nurses to train.

The number of Learning Disability Nurses entering training has fallen to a level which threatens the future of the profession. This is occurring at a crucial time in the Transformation of the model of support for Individuals with a Learning Disability who rely on well trained professionals.

The governments policy Transforming care is moving individuals with complex needs out of institutional care to more appropriate support to live in their own homes in their communities. This change requires the expertise of professionals who can support individuals to manage this change and make it successful. LD Nurses bring a wealth of skills that are not available from any other profession which could be lost without intervention. The Bursary is available in Wales where courses are full.
