Closed petition Prevent planning permission from being granted at Askham Bog
Closed on
Property developers are continuing to target land adjacent to an ecologically important nature reserve in York which threatens to drain the bog and destroy its ecosystem. The council have refused permission yet an appeal is in progress to try and give the developers the answer they want.
The Secretary of State should ‘call in’ the planning decision and stop the development going ahead.
Planning applications can be intercepted and determined solely by the Secretary of State. This is an exceptional circumstance, not only because of the damage it will cause to the bog, it will also place more strain on local services, infrastructure and, dare I say it, ignores the democratic wishes of both the local citizens and David Attenborough.
