Petition Luton to remain a Town not a City
More details
We the undersigned residents of Luton and surrounding area call on the government to not offer it's backing to Luton's campaign for City status.
Luton is a great multi-cultural town which functions as a town and would be ruined by becoming a city.
The "Love Luton" campaign argues that Luton acts like a city in it's workforce patterns, however Luton is clearly a commuter town for London.
The "Love Luton" campaign points to Sunderland's example, however Sunderland is now a series of unfinished regeneration projects.
The "Love Luton" campaign argues that Luton's proximity to London is an advantage. This is true but would be eroded if Luton actually became a competing city against London.
Luton is a wonderful, important, multi-cultural, growing town. If given City Status it would become a small and inadequate city with relatively poor public facilities and infrastructure.
Because we love Luton we are not backing the bid for City status and we call on the government to support us.
