Petition Meat tax

More details

Obesity is a significant drain on the economy in terms of health costs and productivity of workers.

Many other health costs are driven up and related to obesity and poor diet.

1 in 10 children are now obese, which has long term implications of diabetes and heart disease, as well as the ability to learn, putting the UK's economic future at risk of being a stronghold for innovation.

By pushing up the price of meat the UK would:

Reduce obesity
Meet it's carbon limits more easily
Boost the economy by reducing health costs and healthier workers are more likely to be more productive

By taxing all meat products or at the least red meat, British farmers would not fair poorly against meat imported from outside the UK.

Less meat in the diet would not result in poor protein intake, anemia or any other health problems.
