To stop drivers overtaking vehicles such as buses and lorries and other cars or motorbikes in a box junction to steal the empty space the original driver was driving towards , forcing the original driver to lose his or her place and face a potential fine for blocking a box junction. Minicabs and taxis are the worst offenders. The overtaking vehicle should be made to pay the fine not the original driver who obeyed the rules and only entered the box junction when his or her exit was clear.
