Rejected petition Students to have GCSE target grades, due to the possibility of schools closing.

Amidst the hysteria of a worldwide pandemic, pupils of secondary schools who have to go under the stress of GCSE’s should be given their target grades. I know that if my school closes my grade will be hindered greatly as I do not have the correct learning facilities at home to revise everything.

More details

As the government has the power to, I want target grades to be given to all secondary school pupils undergoing GCSE’s as the grade they will get will not be the grade they can achieve, the target grades are a great middle ground and will support pupils health and safety and not force them to over work and stress while all around COVID-19 is scaring some people. Overall I think schools should be closed and if they do, schools will miss GCSE’s so they should be given the target grades.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

Decisions about exams are a matter for exam boards and individual educational institutions and are not a matter for the UK Government or Parliament.

On Wednesday 19 March the Government announced the closure of all schools from Friday 20 March, and said that this means exams will not take as planned in May and June, and the Government will "make sure that pupils get the qualifications they need and deserve for their academic career."

You could start a petition calling on the Government to work with educational institutions and exam boards to agree an approach that gives students affected by the cancellation of exams their target grades.
