Closed petition Improve mental health services for young people (children and adolescents)

CAMHS desperately require better funding so that the staffing, treatment and care problems can be improved.
By underfunding these services, the health and wellbeing of our young people is currently being put at tremendous risk.

More details

10% of children and young people (aged 5-16 years) have a clinically diagnosable mental problem, yet 70% of children and adolescents who experience mental health problems have not had appropriate interventions at a sufficiently early age. CAMHS services currently struggle to accommodate appropriate intervention and treatment plans due to being understaffed and underfunded. Mental health is just as important as physical health and many young people suffer alone. We need to change this

MPs debate Children's Mental Health Week 2024

On Tuesday 30 January, MPs took part in a Westminster Hall debate on Children's Mental Health week 2024. During the debate MPs discussed how mental health support for young people could be improved.

The debate was led by Dr Rosena Allin-Khan MP. The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Maria Caulfield MP, responded to the debate on behalf of the Government.

What is a Westminster Hall debate?

Westminster Hall is the second chamber of the House of Commons. Westminster Hall debates give MPs an opportunity to raise local and national issues and receive a response from a government minister. Westminster Hall debates are general debates that do not end in a vote.
