Rejected petition Pressure Insurers to pay out on cancellations of weddings due to COVID-19
Mis-leading and contradictory information on wedding insurance contracts have led to couples being snookered; unable to cancel/move their weddings as venues want this to proceed at all costs and under exemptions, insurers will not pay out if a government mandated regulation prohibits mass gatherings
More details
Wedding insurance documents include this statement below which indicates that Corona Virus/COVID-19 is covered:
The venue and caterer are "unable to hold your wedding due to an outbreak of infectious or contagious disease”
However under exemptions, the below is stated:
"Any claim arising “directly or indirectly from government regulation or act and monetary losses which are more specifically insured” will not be covered.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
The decision to pay out under a policy is one for individual insurance companies, not the UK Government or Parliament.
If you are unhappy with the decision of your insurer you should complain directly to them.
If you are unsatisfied with how an insurer responds to your complaint you may wish to contact the financial ombudsman: https://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/businesses/complaints-deal/insurance
