Rejected petition Include self employed in the 80% wage pay scheme during the corona virus
The government announced that all employed workers would be paid 80% of their wage up to the sum of £2500 per month during the Coronavirus pandemic.
This should be available to self employed people too. Currently the government are only going to pay £94 per week for someone who is self employed.
More details
The current sum of £94 per week isn’t enough for self employed workers, and will force them out to work when they should be at home self isolating. If employed workers are entitled to 80% of their wage up to £2500, then self employed workers should be entitled to the same sum.
HMRC have self employed people’s tax returns, the government would only need that information to base their payments of 80% on.
