Rejected petition Pay self-employed 80% of salary if no longer have an income due to corona virus.
Stop discriminating against those who are self -employed during the Coronavirus outbreak. Pay them 80% of their monthly salary as you intend for those who are employed. Not as a loan that will get them into further debt but as a benefit. Base the 80% on the last 3 years earnings and tax returns.

Self employed contribute greatly to the economy. They pay income tax, VAT and corporation tax on their earnings. Universal Credit is an insult and it will not cover their household outgoings. They work hard, they are entrepreneurs they are being unfairly treated.
What does this tell the young people of today, don't be a hardworking entrepreneur with ambition as you will not be helped in a crisis by your own government. The self-employed are being treated as second best to those who are employed.

Since this petition was started, the Government has said that most self-employed people can claim a taxable grant worth 80% of their trading profits up to a maximum of £2,500 per month for the next 3 months.
