Britain is at war with an invisible enemy. Tens of thousands have already died, leaving behind husbands, wives, partners and children. The government should introduce a War Widow style pension, to prevent the bereaved facing loss of home or financial distress.

This could be compounded by the impact on the economy and loss of employment for many. The state provides a welfare system to support those who lose their employment, but during such times of national distress, the nation should ensure that those who lose a partner are financially supported.
