Rejected petition Enforce airlines who cancel flights to offer a full refund on cancellation.

Rejected on

Many industries are refunding the cost paid for services that cannot be provided due to Covid-19. The behaviour of some members of the airline industry to enforce transfers and not offer refunds in order to protect their businesses is unacceptable and morally wrong towards the consumer.

The Government should step in and protect consumer rights directing the airlines to immediately offer a refund in full along side an alternative of a no charge transfer to another flight.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

Airlines are required to offer the choice of a refund or alternative flight in the event a flight is cancelled. You can find more information on the CAA's website: https://www.caa.co.uk/Passengers/Resolving-travel-problems/Delays-cancellations/Your-rights/Your-rights-when-you-fly/

The arrangements for refunding, changing or rebooking travel are a matter for individual airlines and travel agents, not the Government or Parliament.

We have published a petition calling on the Government to create a fund to reimburse money lost due to covid-19 travel cancellations, which you might like to sign: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/304912
