Rejected petition Give partners the opportunity again to attend antenatal scans again

I understand with the current pandemic of covid 19 partners of pregnant women are not able to attend antenatal scans due to the risk of infection. However partners already feel pushed out at times as they are not the individual carrying the child and will feel not part of the pregnancy.

More details

Partners of expecting pregnant women should be allowed to attend antenatal scans because it's unfair that one parent is able to see there unborn child and one is not and can only see them by a photograph at the end. If two people are isolating together I cant see why there unable to attend appointments together with precaution. I understand other pregnant women attending scans and midwives and health care workers who work on maternity wards need protecting but this is unfair.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

Decisions about visitors are a matter for the NHS, not the Government or House of Commons.

On 5 June, the NHS’s suspension of hospital visiting was lifted. This means that visiting is now subject to local discretion by trusts and other NHS bodies. You should check with your maternity team and sonography unit for their policy on visitors attending antenatal appointments, including scans.
