Petition Fund Vitamin D tests and free/subsidised supplements for BAME communities

Make the testing of Vitamin D levels readily and freely available from GP Surgeries, Pharmacies as well as through home testing kits. Vitamin D therapies should be freely provided to bring people to optimum levels. Supplements should then be available for free/subsidized to maintain optimum levels.

More details

Modern lifestyles and dark skin impedes the absorption of Vitamin D from sunlight which can lead to low levels.

Vitamin D controls the on/off switch for more than a thousand genes and is also a building block for hormones. It influences our immune system, and is thought to help inflammatory pathways run properly.

Deficiency has been linked to obesity, high blood pressure, psoriasis, osteoporosis, chronic fatigue, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer and type 2 diabetes.

Action could save lives and help protect the NHS.

MPs to debate Vitamin D and covid-19 mitigation

MPs will debate Vitamin D and covid-19 mitigation on Thursday 14 January in the main House of Commons chamber. This is an Adjournment debate, determined by the Speaker.

Adjournment debates are half-hour debates at the end of each day's sitting. They are an opportunity for an individual backbench MP to raise an issue and receive a response from the relevant Minister, however they do not end in a vote nor can they change the law.

The debate will start at around 5.00pm after the conclusion of the debate on the effect of covid-19 on dental services.
