Closed petition Reward our healthcare heroes now for risking their lives to fight Covid-19.

Nurses, doctors, care workers and support staff are putting their lives on the line every day to save others. The Sunday Mirror is calling on the Government to give them an immediate pay supplement for the duration of the crisis in recognition of what they do.

Those battling on the NHS frontline and care workers tending the elderly and vulnerable are the bravest of the brave in the war against Covid-19. When our armed forces are posted to combat zones they receive a daily, tax free operational allowance while there. Chancellor Rishi Sunak should introduce a similar scheme now for our courageous corona warriors. It is the least a grateful nation can do to say thank you.

MPs to debate petitions calling for the recognition and reward of health and social care workers

The Petitions Committee, which is the group of MPs who oversee the petitions system, has agreed to schedule a debate in the House of Commons Chamber on Thursday 25 June on petitions calling for the recognition and reward of health and social care workers.

The debate is being held in response to the huge number of petitions we have received that call for the Government to recognise and reward health and social care workers.

The start time of the debate will depend on other parliamentary business, but you can follow the Petitions Committee on Twitter @HoCpetitions, where we will post updates on when we expect the debate to start.

You will be able to watch the debate live here: https://parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/a7b6db44-6101-42c7-b2a0-32abd08b80ef

A transcript will be published the following day here: https://hansard.parliament.uk
