Closed petition Record Race and Ethnicity on Death Certificates

The Office for National Statistics do not collect information on the race and ethnicity of people dying. This is vital data that should be in the public domain. We all have the right to know so that we can explore ways public policy may need to be shaped around possible disparities.

More details

Death is the only certainty in life, but we are denied the right to know who is truly dying in this country. This archaic model of registering deaths needs to be transformed for the modern world.

Such a shift in public policy can open a new terrain for understanding life in the UK on many levels. The information is also critical to supporting research in a range of key fields.

We cannot rely on anecdotal media reports to paint a picture of ethnic disparities in death, we deserve the data.
