Closed petition Require supermarkets and restaurants to donate or compost food waste

Closed on

In France, grocery stores and supermarkets must donate unsold food to charity; but the UK wastes this food, despite 14.3 million of its residents living in poverty. Much of this food is wasted before it reaches its best before date when the product has not spoiled but has surpassed its peak quality.

Globally by 2030, 2.1 billion tonnes of food will annually either be lost or thrown away. This is equivalent to 66 tonnes of food per second. The only way we can stop this is by taking action.
