Petition Ban the manufacture and sale of new cars that are solely powered by fossil fuels

It is well publicised that fossil fuels damage the environment. We already have the technology to reduce emissions by using hybrid and electric cars. The government has pledged to make this happen by 2035. Why not make it happen now?
