Introduce legislation to make it compulsory for all retailers to accept cash for products and services in addition to other means of payment.

Many retailers have started preventing people from paying by cash. This has affected shops and other commercial outlets. This can negatively impact particular groups, especially older people, who may not have bank accounts and could have difficulties remembering a PIN, and people who are not able to open a bank account.

    MPs to debate access to and acceptance of cash during the covid-19 outbreak

    MPs will debate access to and acceptance of cash during the covid-19 outbreak on Thursday 3 December in Westminster Hall. The subject of the debate has been determined by the Backbench Business Committee.

    This will be a general debate. General debates allow MPs to debate important issues, however they do not end in a vote nor can they change the law.

    The debate will start at 1.30pm and last for 90 minutes.
