Closed petition Public inquiry into working conditions at Leicester’s textiles factories

Leicester has a proud industrial heritage and strong links to the fashion sector. The city has over 1000 textiles factories, supplying many high street and well-known online brands.

More details

However, there are concerns about illegal working conditions in the sector, which have been linked to the spread of COVID-19.

We want the government to ensure proper scrutiny is carried out over the fast fashion supply chain in Leicester (home to a third of the UK’s fashion manufacturers and 10,000 workers).

This should investigate potential illegality and inform enforcement action to ensure legal, fair and humane practices in the city’s factories: fair pay, legal contracts, no overcrowding, PPE, sick leave & holidays.
