Closed petition Remove all restrictions on amateur musicians

Professionals often accompany choral societies and supplement amateur orchestras. By keeping restrictions on amateur music the Government prevent professionals earning a living. Amateur players are no more likely to pass on Covid 19 than professionals. Music is good for improving mental Health.

More details

The recent guidance from DCMS is at best very confusing and at worst discriminatory. We want the Government to rewrite the guidance to include amateur musicians in exemptions. All musicians should be allowed to perform without restrictions. I am a professional flautist and there is a cross over between the two sectors as pros often accompany choral societies as previously stated. I have also had professional engagements playing concertos with amateur orchestras.
