We’re waiting for a new Petitions Committee

Petitions had to stop because of the recent general election. Once a new Petitions Committee is set up by the House of Commons, petitions will start again.

Closed petition Introduce meaningful punishments for being found in contempt of Parliament

Currently if our Parliament finds people in contempt there is no meaningful sanction. Proper punishments should be introduced, with at a minimum those found in contempt being barred from Government or Parliamentary posts.

More details

When Parliament is meant to be sovereign it sees absurd that being found in contempt can simply be ignored as there are no meaningful sanctions.

The Government and House of Commons should explore options for introducing punishments for being found in contempt, and implement these as soon as possible.
