Rejected petition Allow couples who cannot form support bubbles to meet without social distancing

Rejected on

At the start of July, Scotland relaxed the restrictions on couples living apart that are unable to form support bubbles. These couples are now allowed to meet up without distancing. This should be introduced in England.

With the relaxing of lockdown rules, the government have neglected couples that do not live together. By allowing this couples to meet, they would be able to holiday together and spend more money in the economy.

Why was this petition rejected?

We can't publish petitions when the request is something that's already happening or something that has been announced since you started your petition.

We think your petition is covered by Government or Parliament action already. If you'd like something else, you could start a new petition clearly explaining what it is.

It is no longer against the law to visit or stay with a partner in another household. The legal restrictions on staying overnight in another household were revoked by the The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (No. 2) (England) Regulations 2020.

The Government's advice on social distancing now states that you can socialise indoors with members of other households, but says that you should continue to follow strict social distancing guidelines when you are with anyone not in your household or your support bubble: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/meeting-people-from-outside-your-household-from-4-july

You could start a petition calling on the Government to update its advice on social distancing for partners from different households, if that is what you want to happen.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
