Petition Azerbaijan and human rights - cultural boycott

Azerbaijan as a totalitarian state denies basic human rights for it people , but continues to promote its international status , for example currently through hosting the forthcoming Eurovision song contest.

In the run up to this contest we note the increasing abuses of both personal right to property and journalistic freedom in order for the government to control and manipulate the image of the country by using this icon of popular culture .

We believe the British government needs to increase international awareness of the human rights record of this state , and to promote a drive for democratization by itself boycotting , and encouraging other governmental and non governmental organisations to boycott such cultural events until basic human rights are afforded to the population .
