Petition A state funeral for the remains of Richard III

More details

At the time of writing, excavations are ongoing to ascertain if remains found in Leicester, are those of Richard III, king of England.

We the undersigned acknowledge that the conduct o Richard III has been mired in controversy for centuries, but furhter state that this is not the place to debate them.

We the undersigned petition the UK govt as to the following.

If the remains are confirmed as those of Richard III, then as an annointed king of England, the closest authority that can claim a link to the government of the former Kingdom of England, the UK govt, has a duty to act.

The UK govt should immediately ensure the reburial of King Richard, with all due ceremony, and in accordance with the catholic religious practices he lived under.

The UK govt should cover the costs of said reinternment.

The British PM should make a statement in the Commons as recognition of the cultural and historic significance of such a discovery.
