Closed petition Bring back the position of S.E.N or equivalent
Closed on
The position of State Enrolled Nurse was abolished S.E.N's offered a less qualified route into nursing, similar to a midshipman in the Navy, which could still allow a route through to the higher role of S.R.N.
The void has been filled to some extent by less qualified and unregistered nursing assistants.
Reinstating an S.E.N position will allow the NHS to have trained, qualified nurses at a lower pay grade who can be supervised by the higher qualified degree level staff.
It worked extremely well since 1943 and is a win win for all aspects of the current health situation offering reductions in long term costs, more compassionate hands on roles (S.E.N's nearly uniformly went into nursing as a vocation) whilst reopening nursing to an excluded section of our community.
It gives former degree qualified staff an easier route back into practical nursing after extended absence.
Please reinstate the position of State Enrolled Nurse
