Closed petition Reform political finance - ban private donations and replace with public funding

The Government should ban and criminalise private donations, including financial contributions or provision of benefits of financial value, to politicians or political parties. UK politics should be funded solely by a system of generous, open, and accountable public funding.

We believe that the current system of private donations creates opportunity for corruption and influence peddling, and that the only way to tackle this is to exclude private contributions to political parties and politicians.

Generous public funding should provide the foundation for a renewal of our politics and thence our public administration and government, and eventually of our society.
