Rejected petition Stop pedophilia from becoming known as a sexual orientation

The government needs to make it known that pedophilia is not a sexual orientation and pedophiles should receive extremely serious consequences of their actions.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

The Equality Act 2010 make sexual orientation a protected characteristic, but is clear that this only relates to a person's sexual orientation towards persons of the same sex, opposite sex or either sex. The Government has not set out any plans to extend these protections to people because of their sexual orientation towards minors, and is active in tackling child sexual exploitation and abuse.

There are already a number of criminal offences related to sexual activity with a child and indecent images of a child. Investigating and charging suspected offences is a matter for the police and Crown Prosecution Service.
