We’re waiting for a new Petitions Committee

Petitions had to stop because of the recent general election. Once a new Petitions Committee is set up by the House of Commons, petitions will start again.

Rejected petition Remove political bias from education

For too long teachers and lecturers have been grooming their pupils in schools and universities, with biased and extreme political views. This should be banned and people left to form their own opinions.

More details

Teachers must be stopped from influencing young and impressionable minds who look up to them as a voice of authority. Education establishments should be free from political bias.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the UK Government or House of Commons to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about the influence of universities on university students, but it's not clear what you want the UK Government to do about this.

Universities are autonomous institutions and decisions about the content of courses and employment of lecturers and professors is a matter for individual universities, not the Government or House of Commons.

If you want the Government to nationalise higher education, so that the Government is responsible for university education, including setting any rules around political impartiality, we could accept a petition requesting that.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
