Closed petition Give local authorities powers to designate zones where face masks must be worn

Allow local authorities to designate face mask-wearing only zones in limited outdoor locations where 2m distancing is logistically difficult to maintain and the risk of spread of Covid 19 is high. For uniformity of messaging, all zoned areas should be marked by standardized colour-coded notices.

Current guidelines call for 2m social distancing or 1m where added measures are in place. This has proved ineffectual in some locations where social distancing is unsustainable due to local conditions. Legislation is urgently required to raise public awareness and reduce the spread of Covid 19 in these areas. The aim is to reduce public apathy and potential transmission opportunities in these high-risk areas by deploying a workable universal scheme tailored to meet complex local needs.
