The first new deep coalmine in the UK in 30 years has been approved to be built in Cumbria.
This is an indefensible decision that contradicts the country's commitment to being carbon neutral by 2050.
To ensure a liveable planet for future generations this mine must be prevented from being built.

To build this mine in the midst of a climate crisis not only contradicts the government's intentions to become carbon neutral, but also sends a message to the nation that short-term economic growth is to be prioritised over the long-term survival of our species and planet.

Aside from this, such a project will cause immediate and irreparable damage to the local landscape and wildlife.
