Rejected petition License for pubs/restaurants to open 24/7 to thin the crowd, save the economy
To grant license for pubs, restaurants and cafes to be open 24/7.
These places don’t have to open 24/7 but should be able to choose when to open at the most profitable time.
More details
Due to people working from home the normal 9-5 work model is disappearing. Our recreational infrastructure should reflect this change. As things stand we have crowds of people all on a shortened recreational timetable, which is leading to alcohol abuse and illegal gatherings when the bars are shut. If the bars had overlapping opening times then there would be no crowds or going to house parties after closing time. With a 24/7 schedule and a booking app, the crowd would thin.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
Licensed venues can already apply for permission to sell refreshments at any hour, but decisions about whether to consent to these requests is a matter for individual licensing authorities, not the Government or House of Commons.
We have published a number of petitions calling on the Government to end or change restrictions on opening hours of hospitality venues, which you might like to sign:

Increase the Covid-19 trading curfew from 10pm to 1am in December: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/552487
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
