Closed petition Extend DfE and Ofsted oversight to private schools

Private schools should be subject to the same oversight as state schools. Currently Ofsted only directly oversees, and the DfE only considers complaints about, state schools. Non-governmental bodies oversee private schools. We believe all schools should be directly overseen by the DfE and Ofsted.

Current arrangements for oversight of private schools are inadequate, and mean that private schools are not held to account in the same way as state schools, and that students and parents do not have the same options to seek redress through Ofsted or the Department for Education.
