Closed Appoint a separate Minister for Leasehold.

At present there is Minister of State for Building Safety, Leasehold and Communities.

The Minister of State cannot act in the best interests of Leaseholders at the same time as Freeholders. As such, there should be an independent Minister for Leasehold appointed.

In the aftermath of the Grenfell tragedy, it is right that many buildings require fire safety improvements. However, the way in which this is currently being implemented exposes Leaseholders to the risk of financial abuse.

It is clear from recent consultation with regards to the Building Safety Bill that one Minister cannot advocate on behalf of Leaseholders at the same time as Freeholders and the Construction Industry.

We are calling for a separate Minister for Leasehold to be appointed.
