Closed petition Save our Green and Pleasant Land and abandon the proposed Planning Reforms

The government is consulting on a White Paper to change Planning Laws. It basically carves up the entirety of England into 3 zones. One will get automatic development rights. The second has presumption of development. Only the conservation and aonb areas etc will have methods of protection.

More details

1.This White Paper says it will give community more input. We believe this is not true, and that the proposals are an assault on local democracy.

2. The paper says it is to help with housing shortages. We believe this is not true and that proposals are to help developers, as housing shortages are not to do with planning laws and there are a million unbuilt houses with permissions.

3. We believe these reforms will result in destruction of our countryside and urban green spaces, harm biodiversity.

MPs to debate the Planning for the Future White Paper

MPs will debate the Planning for the Future White Paper this Tuesday 15 December in Westminster Hall.

This will be a general debate. General debates allow MPs to debate important issues, however they do not end in a vote nor can they change the law.

The debate will start at 2.30pm and last for 90 minutes.

Report on the future of the planning system in England published

A cross-party group of MPs called the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee have published a report on the future of the planning system in England, which considers a number of issues related to this petition.

Read the full report here: https://committees.parliament.uk/publications/6180/documents/68915/default/

The report considers the Government’s proposed reforms to the planning system announced in August 2020, and considers how well the proposed reforms would support the Government’s wider building strategy, including its target to build 300,000 new homes a year, as well as ensuring high quality construction that is fit for purpose. The report also examines how well the new proposals protect existing buildings or localities, and provide mechanisms for local engagement in the planning system.
