Rejected petition No unauthorised absence from school fine if attendance is 90% or above.

More details

Stop fines for parents for 'unauthorised absence' from school if the child's attendance is 90% or above. Or if fines continue, parents can fine school and local authority for non schedule closures, ie: bad weather, strikes or school needs to close for deep clean due to winter sickness bugs.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

The government has not changed the law so that it can fine parents who go on term time holiday. The law has changed governing term time leave to make it clear that schools should grant leave of absence only in exceptional circumstances. Whether a school or local authority issues a fine for unauthorised family holiday is down to a local decision.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
