During these uncertain times the government should offer holders of student loans the opportunity to suspend their payments for up to 12 months over the life of the loan term. Suspension should be offered regardless of earnings.

Allowing borrowers to suspend their student loan repayment would provide much needed financial breathing space for younger people already struggling against the effect of Brexit and COVID. Implementing this policy supports holders of student loans to better realise their ambitions or provide more security in an uncertain employment market.
