Closed petition Introduce mandatory registration of white goods to improve product recalls
Closed on
An estimated 60 fires a week are caused by faulty white goods. To improve product recalls Government should mandate the registration of high-risk white goods at:
• The point of purchase
• When a property is sold
• During home insurance applications
Without a functioning recall system, potentially dangerous appliances cannot easily be traced. The lack of registration of white goods contributes to an average failure rate of 80-90% for recalls. Many people are unaware of the registration process and have never proactively checked if their white goods were subject to a recall.
The registration changes proposed would be simple for consumers and could be incorporated into existing transactions.
