We’re waiting for a new Petitions Committee

Petitions had to stop because of the recent general election. Once a new Petitions Committee is set up by the House of Commons, petitions will start again.

Closed petition Prevent exceptional hardship being used as a defence against driving bans

The necessary legislation should be introduced to prevent drivers, who would otherwise be disqualified, retaining their licence on the basis they would suffer exceptional hardship.

More details

Families of victims and survivors of dangerous drivers often suffer extreme hardship as a result of these tragedies. High profile cases where drivers have been allowed to keep their licence using this defence, has diminished the deterrent threat of disqualification. This must be re-balanced: If being banned would cause you hardship, extreme or otherwise, you should drive with care.
