Closed petition Re-establish the cross-party committee examining Britain’s relations with the EU
Closed on
The Government has allowed the cross-party committee examining Britain’s relations with the EU to be disbanded, in what could be seen as a cynical attempt to avoid scrutiny. We demand that the committee be re-established immediately.
The shutting down of the committee blocks a planned six-month inquiry into the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA), designed to question key players in televised evidence sessions at parliament before producing an authoritative report assessing the merits and flaws of the deal in rigorous detail. Undermining scrutiny of the TCA is undemocratic and will give rise to suspicion that the Government is shutting down debate in order to cover its tracks. This is unacceptable to the UK public.
