Closed petition Create a new vehicle category for E-bikes with a top speed of 30mph

Reclassify E-bikes that can reach a top speed of 30mph into their own class of Motor vehicles. This should include the use of a headlight and rear light at night; a legal requirement for helmets and insurance, as well as an age restriction to 18+ and, have at least a provisional license.

There is a massive explosion of E-bike's seen globally and in the UK.
The current laws limit the pedelec E-bikes to 15mph and a 250w motor.

This is inadequate as it creates a large speed deficit between E-bike users and traditional road users which is a major safety concern.
The current speed limit stops potential users from replacing their cars for travel, while other users bypass the law altogether and derestrict their bikes. The law's should be updated to reflect current green initiatives.
