Rejected petition Give university students a choice to defer or study online
Give university students a choice to defer, cost free, for however long it may take for their courses to take place as they could prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, or to continue with online teaching, with blended teaching when appropriate, but at a reduced fee.
More details
When applied to, many university courses promised practical experience, use of industry standard equipment, and facilities appropriate to the course. Due to the pandemic, this has not been possible. It is felt the tuition fee cannot no longer be justified.
The toll the pandemic has take on mental health is undeniable, but very little has been done to help; universities have not provided adequate support, and some are also struggling financially. Mental health is at an all time low amongst students.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
Decisions about university courses are a matter for individual universities, not the UK Government or Parliament.
If you have concerns about your university's arrangements you should raise these with your university or the Office for Students, which regulates the higher education sector.
We understand that the current situation is stressful for many people, including students. Student Minds, a mental health charity for students, is collating guidance and developing resources to support students experiencing stress as a result of the current situation, which you may find useful: https://www.studentminds.org.uk/coronavirus.html
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
