We’re waiting for a new Petitions Committee

Petitions had to stop because of the recent general election. Once a new Petitions Committee is set up by the House of Commons, petitions will start again.

Closed petition Remove the ability of convicts with life sentences to apply for release

The Government needs to change rules on life sentences. We are calling for a life sentence to actually mean a person will never be let out of prison.

More details

Many people in society feel that life sentences where convicts can apply for release after serving a minimum term is not sufficient punishment. Allowing people who have been sentenced to life in prison to apply for release is not justice for the families. This petition also calls for strict life sentences for criminals that commit crimes that result in a life sentence.
