In the absence of event insurance due to the pandemic, this sector is facing a very uncertain period. I call upon the UK Government to create an events cancellation fund, mirroring the support being offered around the world, such as Germany, so event organisers can recoup costs of cancelled events.

Over half a million people work in the broader events sector in the UK. Without this support, many organisations may opt to not even attempt planning their events, whilst adequate insurance is not available, and this will have a devastating impact on the livelihoods of the many thousands of people working in this area. This support is being offered in many countries across the globe, and for good reason. Events make a huge economic impact. The UK Government must support the events sector now.
