Closed petition Permanently Abolish Mandatory Foreign Aid target and spend our money at home

We call upon the Government to permanently abolish the mandatory Foreign Aid target and not just during the Covid19 crisis.

More details

Three years ago, the Daily Express ran a campaign to stop Foreign Aid. So far the Government has cut the aid budget from 0.7% GDP to 0.5% GDP. We believe this does not go far enough. With homeless veterans sleeping rough on our streets, we need to prioritise the nation's finances. Aid should only be used for natural disasters.
It is time to permanently abolish the mandatory Foreign Aid target and spend our money at home.

MPs debate the 0.7% official development assistance target

On Tuesday 8 June there was an 'emergency debate' on the 0.7% official development assistance target.

An emergency debate is a debate called at short notice in the House of Commons on a matter that should have urgent consideration. Emergency debates allow MPs to debate important issues, however they do not end in a vote nor can they change the law.
