Rejected petition Urgent steps must be taken to prepare fully to avoid future pandemic lockdowns
HMG must build:
1. NHS capacity in a. beds, training and b. preventative & palliative care for pandemics
2. Vaccine production capacity for future variations
3. capacity to protect and support vulnerable individuals
4. new independent challenge bodies to existing policy structures
More details
For the first time in history the whole population has been locked down. The government may have postponed the deaths of many vulnerable and elderly vulnerable people in the UK. The cost to the British population has been immense in economic, social, educational, physical and mental health damage. The effects of this policy, not the pandemic itself, will ripple down the years. Alternative strategies, with proper preparation, need to be fully explored and implemented for all future virus crises.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. We understand you'd like the Government to better prepare for future pandemics, but we're not sure what actions you'd like to happen for
"capacity to protect and support vulnerable individuals"
"new independent challenge bodies to existing policy structures"
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
