Call for the Government to amend the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 to prohibit the removal or destruction of any wildlife and habitat from private land. A full ecological survey of any site should be carried out prior to work starting.

This should close the existing loophole where a planning application is required before authorities check for existing wildlife. A full ecological survey of any site where potential developments are planned should be required.

I would hope this would prevent the destruction of wildlife and habitat before anyone knows what is there.
