Closed petition Make Subtitles/ Captions a legal requirement for online training & education
Closed on
The advent of AI has made the provision of subtitles and live captions cheap and easy to implement. It should be made a legal requirement for training/ education providers to provide them. Essentially it facilitates access to opportunities to the sizeable populous who are hard of hearing/ deaf.
Socially inclusive and addresses disability discrimination in the education sector. UK Statistics:
1) 12 million adults with hearing loss greater than 25 dBHL. By 2035, there’ll be around 14.2 million adults with hearing loss greater than 25 dBHL
2) 50,000 deaf children
3) An estimated 1.2 million people have hearing loss greater than 65 dBHL.
4) Hearing research is significantly underfunded. Less than 1% of the total public and charity investment in medical research (83p spent for every person affected) in 2018
