Closed petition Review handling of rape cases & training given to investigating police officers

The Government should commission a review into the handling of all sexual assault cases. This review should also consider whether specialised training for investigating police officers could increase the number of prosecutions.

More details

Current policy and change of approach in the way rape cases are prosecuted should also be considered.

In recent years, sexual assault related cases reported to police have risen sharply. But, the proportion making it to court have declined drastically. This is devastating news for victims of all forms of sexual violence and abuse. There is no disputing how abysmal the figures are.

Achieving justice for rape is complicated and complex, and a difficult journey to take. It is crucial police officers are given a better level of specialised training in order to increase the level of prosecutions.
