Closed petition Make free prescriptions available to people who suffer from IBD.

Closed on

The Government should give people who suffer with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) entitlements to free prescriptions, like many others with other long term illnesses, so they do not have to pay for long-term medication.

1 in 210 (300,000) people in the UK are diagnosed with IBD, mostly before 30 years old. It is a long term condition and there is no cure. Medication is vital for managing the disease to avoid further health complications and surgical procedures. An IBD sufferer can pay for 4 or 5 prescriptions within a month, depending on the disease severity. Each prescription costs £9.35 and is rising. Free prescriptions reduces financial stresses for many with IBD and provides support to treat the illness.
